This is when a client receives a thorough review and analysis of the facts of the case, and he or she is educated on the law as it applies to those facts. All options are discussed and a comprehensive strategy is developed for dealing with the problem after evaluating those options and using a cost/benefit analysis, whether that means hiring our firm, some other lawyer, or handling the matter on one’s own. At the initial consultation, fee arrangements are discussed that take into consideration the type of case, the anticipated amount of work required, and other factors. There are many cases where there is no fee paid by a client. Instead, the law firm’s fee is contingent on recovery from the opposing party(s). In some other cases, a client can recover attorney’s fees and costs he or she has paid from the other party(s).
